Barry Dock Blankers v Team Blank

Well what can i say? I had an absolutely brilliant day and hopefully all fellow “blankers” had as much fun as me???

I’ll start at the beginning.....7.30am met up with Cornish Girl and Mr.....drove down to the mark, parked the cars in the “abundant” amount of empty spaces and took a gentle walk across the field, where that bleddy style managed to “Trap” me again...I hate styles and 5 bar gates!!!

The wind was OK hardly a breeze, unlike Pendennis which was blowing a hoolie......There was a bit of fine misty rain, but thats OK, fish live in water!! So they won’t be put off!!Mr and Mrs CG were setting up their gear whilst I attempted to blow up balloons, to mark the opening in the hedgerow so others could find us and we could “all” fish together! Eventually I had inflated about 8 balloons, then I swiftly secured them to the ideally placed bush at the opening of the hedgerow......doh Lynnie having a dumb moment.....the bush was a bleddy hawthorn.......prickly bushes and cheap spar balloons don’t really mix, but hey ho.....

Sorry, I digress, back to the fishing report.......Crutchie, CG and Mr have all baited up I believe we all had rag and 1 or 2 hook pats and 3/4oz bombs. Didn’t have to wait long and Mr was in with his first.... nice ballan ......Then crutchie hooks a nice ballan........then not long after CG is in on the ballan also.......Certificates issued all round

CG then went float fishing, looking for her illusive garfish......unfortunately, even with crutchie nd Mr CG shouting pull (was like a clay pigeon shoot!) at the right time so she didn’t tangle her line round the float on casting, she never found those gars. Keep trying my bird, they are out there somewhere!

Well a few more wrasse later, team blank were letting the side down, we had all caught!! We need a blanker...... ooh up pops Brolly...BDB’s representative.........he tackled up and casts out.....a short while later, and he only goes and lets the side down by catching his PB ballan (1lb 15oz), and then to top it all he goes and catches his first ever corkwing! Oh deary me, Team blank really have let the side down..... 4 “blankers” and NO BLANKING!!

We need more blankers down here to keep the name “team blank” alive........ Hey up pops Tommo, Silverfish and his clan......wicked, they will save the day and surely one of them will save the day by blanking at this, usually, so called “c*ap” venue!! Well it certainly was looking that way lol until tommo got fed up and decided to become a tosser (a tisnsel tosser) out goes his tinsels, in comes 4 pollock....Oh pollocks!! Only silverfish can save the day now...come on silver take your hooks off, we need a blanker. Too late he was out with his tinsels....and yeah, you guessed it 4 more Pollock.....Crutchie has now lost the will to live.... BdB’s V Team blank, and everyone has caught, even the kids have had, Pollock, green eel, starfish, crab. And then to top it all, crutchies slosh rachet goes...oh err this feels good....I only go and land my definite 26th species by hooking a lovely Couche's Bream, yes a COUCHE'SBREAM! The bream Queen is back!! Well everyone got excited and we all baited up with small hooks and rag, looking for more couche's, but alas, crutchie was definitely the ONLY Bream Queen there today, and managed a total of 4 or 5 Couche's Bream! (Sorry, I actually lost count lol)

Well what can i say, crutchie is on a roll
Met up with cornish girl and "Mr" to try and target a species i've never managed before....... Mr and mrs CG came along and pointed me in the right direction......and hey presto target species MULLET caught by crutchie.....1st one i didn't have a clue what i was doing and unfortunately didn't manage to land it(prob about one and a half pounds), but second one i knew how, and when to strike..and how to play the fishie and hey presto landed the little blighter
OK he wasn't the biggest but target species caught and landed (and safely returned!)
THANK YOU SOO MUCH mr and mrs CG, a great, if not cold and wet aftenoon had by all. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me...I think I am now hooked on mullet fishing lol

FISHING FROM BEER

Well there was a window in the weather and we managed to get a crew together so the Bream Trip from Beer was on.
I woke before darkness lifted its veil this morning and ventured from the deepest darkest depths of Cornwall to join the lads up in Devon. Me and Derek were picked up from Saltash by Gary after our silly o'clock dive from Camborne and we made our way to Beer. Stu (the-fox) and Scott (Chesney AKA Sick note!) were already there when we got there and Scott was not feeling well at all. After going for a constitutional he was fit enough for the day out with Cyril on Blue Lady, where the plan was to search out some Black Bream.
We made our way to the first mark and it was clear that the fishing was going to be a bit slow...
After a short move we all soon found the Pout, which were disguising themselves by replicating bite from other fish. Stu got smashed by a bite not too dissimilar to that of a Bass on a large squid bait, only to find a small pout had taken it...
Then I had that special take that could only be one thing...

With that followed much un-eventfulness until another move over the brittle star beds put us back into the bream action.
Up to this point Scott(sick note) had successfully managed to avoid catching anything, until the faithful puppy dogs put in an appearance.
We all managed a few bream, although fishing was fairly slow and sporadic - one minute they were there, the next gone.

All in all we landed about a 18 blacks, 3 or 4 mackie, several dogs, 1 female cuckoo, 1 pollock, 1 scad and umpteen pouting.

go crutchie go.........ignor them, they are jealous! yepeeeeeeee crutchie has her tea (4lb on the nose) - even kernowboy82, after recovering from his near miss this morning walked over to take a look -

pleased as punch, and i'm off on the hunt for black bream tomorrow- fingers crossed!!

15-07-2009

Well i was determined to get that monster, so i packed my kit and waded off to the south coast. was a wonderful day......sun shining, not a breath of wind, lovely fresh sandeel and fresh mackerel....caught first cast on feathers!
baited up, nice long cast with self weighted gar float and nice 3ft trace and super sharp hook pop, up flies my float, then down goes float then back up again lying flat on surface.......crutchie strikes......fishie on yippeee a monster 3lb garfish.........then zrrrrrrrrrrrrr slosh rachet goes......i wake up!!!
yep i had fallen asleep on the rocks dreaming of that illusive garfish!! slosh had woken me up with a nice 4lb strap on the end of it....gave a lovely fight!!
anyway after my little rocky dream, I had wonderful day my dad brought my nephew down, oh wot a wonderful lad!! I haven't seen him for a while and oh, so lovely, he is 16 now and 6 ft 6 and still insists on calling me "auntie lynnie" (awwww! sweet). Anyway lol we had about 30 small pollock up to a 1 lb on floats (all returned) and I managed 3 mackerel on the float....but a long way out and i also managed 2 straps of around the 4lb mark, great fun lol, dad isn't a fisherman, so he was running around in a panic, nephew was being a wuss and i was being a girlie lol again both released unharmed (the straps not my nephew and dad!! lol)still no illusive garfish but a lovely, lovely day out with my nephewwill have to try coverack, pendennis or penberth maybe for those peskie gars!

13-07-2009

Well the sun was shining and i had some worms left over from yesterday, so i decided to carry on with my species hunt and see if i could manage to hook a bream. Packed my little telescopic rod (6 quid on fleabay!) and tootled off to my favouite bream mark...

Had a quick chat with a fellow angler, who had had no luck using nice fresh crabs.....jokingly i said oh just watch me i'll show you how its done.!!! i set up with a size 1 hook and a 2oz running ledger, hooked up a nice lug (thanks gloria-hayle bait and tackle shop) and cast out about 20 foot...turned around to set up my other rod, nice little 6ft spinning od (again cheers gloria - hayle bait and tackle) just as i was tying on the swivel zrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr the other rod was bobbing and line was shooting out...errrmmm i thought lol breamie on!

moved down to rod, flicked baitunner switch and gently started to reel in.......flick bait runner switch again and play the fish a while......then i just gently brought him in!!! lovely a 3lb 4oz gilthead bream.......wicked!

I was well happy now, that was species 21 of my 26 target and it was the target fish of the day. I still had woms left and it was a lovely morning so i baited up my two rods and cast out again.....

Didnt have to wait long and the rod started to bob then the line started to scream off......oh my, surely not another bream? - 2 in 20 minutes, thats not possible!!! as soon as i started to reel in i knew it was my second of the day...i looked across at my fellow angler as i reeled in, with what must have looked the smuggest grin you have ever seen.......bless him, he just put his thumbs up at me, possibly muttering under his breath something like jammy git! lol

This one was slighter bigger weighing in at 3lb 8oz

well it wasn't long, i had managed a couple of small wrasse and a large spider crab and then my rod went again, bob bob bob, zrrrrrrrrrrr the reel shot off at about 70mph...OMG this really cant be a hatrick!!!?? can it?? well it was!! I gently played the fish in and yeah they were getting bigger 3lb 14oz wicked........i was now starting to get a little embarrassed so i bagged my fish and made a slow quiet retreat before i got mugged by the fellow anglers who weren't having much luck!! oops!
Now gonna concentrate on catching my illusive garfish!!!

18-06-2009

Well this is turning into an "eventful" season for crutchie!!!

I was determined to get out fishing again, so i picked up Fisherman Faisy and off we went. With a gusty South Westerly I did a bit of research before we set out...Got to the mark and my research had paid off! Lovely calm waters, but lots of very “wet rain”, couldn’t do anything about that!! So waterproofs on we both set up and chucked out....it wasn’t long before the first fish was landed.....Faisy had a nice little doggie.....very slow fishing for Crutchie!

But non the less nice to be back out again.Well we fished the tide right down and back up to the turn and a bit more (1pm is to 9.40 pm)..the late afternoon turned into a lovely one with blue skies and not a breath of wind.

After a few hours I had managed a couple of small Pollock to add to faisys dogs and by now a couple of mackerel! Then faisy managed his first garfish of the season......not fair i wanted one of those lol......Everything had gone quiet then faisy rod went...then his line stared to go.....oh my this was a biggun!! Faisy was struggling.......we both had that worried look... he had hooked into a seriously large one...it was pulling him closer to the waters edge......crutchie was jut about to witness her first seriously large shore caught fish(and faisy was about to witness Cutchies "girlie dance"!!!!).......faisy was seriously struggling.....its got to be conger or a seal!!!!!....but it was only a size 2/0 with sandeel!!!???????

Next thing “twang”....line gone.....shockleader and all.....bummer! Faisy climbed back up to re tackle, both of us in constant discussion as to what the bleddy heck it was .....then about 200 yrds to our right, up popped two divers!!! Did faisy hook one of these?

We will never know..... all I can say is that it was a "first for me"..never seen a diver caught beforeBeing optimistic i chucked a “penneled” mackerel head out. Nothing for ages then the rachet went ....oohh ohhhh....struck rod, fishie on.....could this be my first biggie of the day? It was fighting....unfortunately it was my best cast of the day so i had what seemed like miles of line to bring in....then suddenly a slack line......doh missed it....still had mackerel head on but that had been well munched!

Well i was determined to get that illusive monster to add to our tally of about 5 doggies, 3 mackerel numerous Pollock and a garfish....so i decided to hook up a recently caught small Pollock who had unfortunately succumbed to his injuries....i tried to give him the kiss of life! Maybe thats why he died!!!!!!lol I hooked him up and lobbed him out...ermmm big fishies obviously wanted mackerel heads today! Nothing happening and sun starting to go so we decided to call it a day!!!

A geat day out, with geat company and lots of little fishies!

0-06-2009

Unfortunately I am going back to hospital today for more treatment, so won't be able to fish for a while
to make up for it i popped out for a "scratching" session yesterday........took a couple of mackerel on a spinner then a few small pollock.....there was quite a swell so fishing wasn't the best...i decided to chuck a two hook 1/0 flapper rig out loaded with mackerel, squid and sandeel cocktail.

Sat myself down half expecting a little tap tap and possibly a doggie....oh no....this wasn't to be!! no tap tap.....just a great big bend then a slack line..... struck the rod and thought "oooo errrrrrr"...it was fishie on!
rod bent in half..egg whisk crancking along....used big egg whisk instead of slosh!!don't ask why...i just did!!!

well i was having one hell of a struggle to bring it in...i had to sit down, wedge my feet in the rocks and just keep pumping away my worst fear was just about to happen....Barry, Adam where are you, i was thinking to myself....I need help....looks like i was just about to land my first double figure fishie.....its not a doggie, too fiesty, certainly aint a mackerel....oh god not my first double figure huss is it? i'll cack myself!!!!!

well after what seemed like hours i was seriously considering cutting the line...my back was well knackered by now and i was seriously starting to panic as to what was on the end! what a girlie!!!! anyway at last i got it to the surface and eventually on to the rocks!!!! i did the biggest ever "girlie dance" you have ever seen, running around like a headless chicken!!!

barry you would have been proud of me....yes i caught my first ever strap weighing in at 8.4lb i seriously didnt think they ate by day or in rough waters! but i can assure you they do ....just trying to work out what i tell the surgeon today when i hobble into operating theatre ha ha.....yes doc i have been taking it easy..just a little bit of "gentle" fishing!!!
